maybe I'm just misinterpreting some of the posts, is the insinuation that 9 and 10-sec "street cars" are a dime a dozen.  Certainly they do exist and I personally know of a very few (heck, I live in SoCal).  But, I just don't see them on every corner as some would like you to believe.

Depends on what corner your look at. LOL

No rock throwing, but there are a lot more of these cars today then there were back in the day.

The year 1980, the place So Cal:

......Ummmm.. Please tell me you have this written down somewhere and didn't post that from memory! I remember numbers for a living and would NEVER keep that list straight! Wow, I thought we had a cool scene around here. Good to hear about the early days.....I'd love to read/hear some old time street racing stories! I have a customer from West Virginia and he has told me stories that people would pay to hear!!!! Good stuff and keep it coming, EKF.

I, like many others, wish I had video, but back then if you got cought with a video you went to jail do not pass go, even if it was months later. Alot of times you do not tell some stories becuase if you were not there then they sound truly unbeleivable. One of the few reasons I like Freiburger is he was there too. Saw him there in the Valley and was there with Jacobs when Speedy raced on Alameda. IMO thats were I think he gets some of his insights from.

Freiburger, I hate to tell you this but one of your competitor magazines has already come up with the perfect formula.

Your friend, (and my hero) Brock Yates states in his rule book "The only rule is: there are no rules." If you want to put 1000 cubic inches in a Pinto, thats fine, BUT you have to DRIVE the car accross the country with no support vehicles of any kind and purchace your gasoline along the way. You have to race at 7 or 8 different venues spaced between 500 and 1000 miles apart on consecutive days. Now this is true automobile racing! In fact to me, it is BY FAR, the most meaningful automobile race on the planet.

F-1 cars couldn't compete. NASCAR cars couldn't compete, IRL cars couldn't compete, John Force in his funny car couldn't compete, and I doubt that many cars in your "Pump Gas Drags" could compete.

After all, what we drive on the road every day are AUTOMOBILES, not race cars. So why don't we race AUTOMOBILES instead of race cars?

Well that puts me out.  The emission Nazi's in NC have determined that I can't have a V8 in a 1984 S10 and get an inspection sticker.  I must have a 4-banger or 6-banger with all emissions componets installed.  As I normally don't give a F about what the state says about emisions I figured I was cool to race.  But I will follow any rules you feel are necessary even if it mean's I don't show.  When I bought the S-10 I was living in VA and could put vintage plates on it.

Umm, VA uses Vintage tags for cars 25 years or older. All other vehicles must pass emissions unless you're in one of the few counties that doesn't yet force you to be sniffed. You can get around it but that's the letter of the law. 1984 isn't old enough for Vintage here...

LUMP,

Important question.

I always heard that the water flushed in the toilet spins the opposite way when you're in the southern hemisphere.  What happens on the equator?

Well Barry, LUMP can't answer that question yet. You see, he has to put his head in the bowl while he flushes. Why, you ask? To keep the swelling to a minimum! LOL. No really, the hotel LUMP is staying in had to double their ice production just so he could alleviate the swelling for sleep!..LOL.

Really though, the cover is too cool. I hope Lump is proud of himself, I know I would be. Too bad he didn't put the "big" pills in it and try to win......just kidding. Also, you guys cars are so damn neat. Each one is a different approach. I read the magazine cover to cover yesterday and AGAIN today! I LOVE the quotes. I am really jealous of Larrys Corvette!!!! too damn nice! Finally, my dear friend Ray....good pics of his car and a lot of obvious respect from the Hotrod staff. I knew you guys would love him! To fully beat a dead horse......Congrats everyone!

..............."Don't worry west coast, we have even bigger plans for you."  ???????????? Drifting? LOL.

Thanks for the compliment on the Vette!!!! Really!!

I STILL DON'T have a copy.. Slow mail in Idaho.  They have to bring it in on the Oregon Trail, and the horses have to be changed twenty times between Wyoming and Boise.

Lump is in Equador.  He did get to see the cover on the site.  Red, white, and blue,   and Lump bursting in air.  Not bad, AAAYY?

I LOVE IT!
